Assistive and adaptive technologies are used to help create independence in those who may not have access to utilizing technology the way others do. Some may not be able to hear the sounds from the computer, see the screen, or move the mouse. Adaptive services can help make a site or application more accessible for these cases. I remember in the news a few months ago there was a girl who could not move or speak but the computer game would sense her eye movement. That is a great example of assistive or adaptive technology. Other than news stories I have not seen technology firsthand but I have witnessed aides in schools to help children.
As I've stated in previous posts my ideal classroom would be about 80% hands-on learning activities and 20% would be them accessing technology. That does not include me teaching from a smartboard or powerpoint however.
I felt like the webquest was pretty fun. I've used Wix before to create a website and I now see it as a great tool for teachers to create helpful learning instruments. I didn't like how it didn't feel like it was as easy designing as I believe it should've been. With elementary school teaching I doubt I'll be needed a webquest but if i ever worked with higher levels I'm happy to have that idea and tool under my belt.

  1. Hi Alexis! I thought you summarized the uses of assistive and adaptive technologies really well, and I think you did a great job including an example of these technologies being implemented. I think you have a great idea about your future classroom structure, and I think that would be really beneficial to your students! Your webquest looks great, and it’s very engaging regarding content and visuals. Nice job!

  2. Hi Alexis!

I really like the way that you created your WebQuest. I think that the topic you chose was neatly formatted into the Quest itself and just looking at your website made me want to complete it! I also definitely agree with your stance on how the classroom should be managed at 80% hands-on learning and 205 technological access. I think that hands-on learning provides students with the greatest opportunity to really explore and understand the information they are learning.
